Five McAllen Memorial High School students recognized as Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Program
Kate Castorena, Peter Choi, Nicholas Moore, Leonardo Moro-Ochoa, and Srinidhi Sompalli are among 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation who are being recognized for their outstanding academic promise. These students scored in the top 50,000 students who entered the 2024 competition by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). According to the NMSP statistics a ‘Commended Student’ is a recognition reserved for the top 3 to 4 percent of students in the State of Texas.
